Built properly from day one

A lot of my work starts with a site someone else built in a hurry: no documentation, no updates, and nobody left who understands it. A new build is the chance to avoid all of that. I design and build websites and web apps that are fast, secure and easy to look after, so they never need rescuing.

  • A site you can run yourself. A simple editor shaped around the way you work, with plain-English hints and an illustrated guide.
  • Fast pages. Images are resized automatically and there's as little JavaScript as possible, so pages load quickly on any phone or connection.
  • Found in search. Page titles and descriptions you can edit, structured data, a sitemap and a share image for every page.
  • Accessible and mobile-first. Designed for phones first and built to accessibility standards.
  • Hosting, email and analytics sorted. I can move your hosting and email, set up analytics and make sure enquiries reach your inbox.

The right tools for the job

I choose the technology to suit the project, not the other way round. That might be Craft CMS for a content-rich business or charity site, Astro with a lightweight editor for a fast brochure site, or Laravel for a bespoke web app.

  2. Proposal and fixed quote

    A written proposal covering the pages, features and timescale, with a fixed price.

  3. Design

    Designs for the key pages, refined with you until they feel right.

  4. Build

    The site is built on a private staging address, so you can see it and try it as it comes together.

  5. Launch

    I move hosting, email and domains if needed, and make sure nothing is missed on launch day.

  6. Training and support

    Training and an illustrated guide so you can run the site yourself, with help on hand when you need it.

Questions

How long does a new website take?

It depends on the size of the site and how quickly the content comes together. I'll give you a realistic timescale in the proposal, before you commit to anything.

Will I be able to update it myself?

Yes. Every site I build has an editor shaped around your content, with plain-English hints, plus a guide and training.

Can you help with the words and photos?

Yes. I can help shape and edit your content, and bring in a copywriter or photographer if you need one.

Who owns the website?

You do: the domain, the content and the site itself.

Do you look after sites after launch?

Yes. I can keep the site updated and secure and make changes as you need them, or simply be on hand when something comes up.
